A Minute With Sarah Healey

Mother. Wife. Daughter. Volunteer. Attorney. Public servant. In any given day, Sarah Healey wears a lot of hats. Serving in her first term on the Farmington Board of Education (BOE), Sarah is fulfilling her lifelong passion of giving back to her community. Sarah is a proud product of public education and comes from a family of public school teachers and administrators, which gives her a unique and firsthand perspective on the needs of both students and faculty. But, more than that, Sarah understands the nexus between strong schools and a strong town. There is no question that the two most decisive factors in Farmington’s appeal to potential residents and businesses are the exceptional quality of our school system and our comparatively low tax rate. Maintaining both requires a respectful and collaborative relationship between the Board of Education and the Town Council. Sarah is committed to striking that balance and being a voice for parents and taxpayers alike.

Sarah is a partner with the law firm of Carmody, Torrance, Sandak & Hennessy, splitting her time between their New Haven and Waterbury offices.  As a litigator, she focuses her practice on employment law, primarily representing management in all types of disputes.  She also represents children on a pro bono basis in neglect and abuse matters pending before the superior court.

Sarah’s greatest joy comes from her two children: Jack (5) and Abigail (3).  She and her husband, John, enjoy spending time together as family.  They enjoy hiking, biking, snowshoeing, sledding and skiing together.  You’ll often find them on the Farmington Canal trail or exploring the grounds at the Hill-Stead.  In 2020, Jack began his FPS career as a kindergartner at Noah Wallace School and Abby will join him there in 2022.

Sarah always has an open ear for anyone who wants to talk about Farmington’s schools.
